NutriGold Fish Oils: Sustainability from Source to Shelf

Published on

A diet that contains a regular intake of cold-water fatty fish and ALA-rich seeds & nuts help supply the body with omega-3 fats, which support heart, cognitive, eye and joint health.* Unfortunately, today’s over-reliance on processed, nutrient deficient foods can sometimes provide an obstacle to consuming adequate amounts of omega-3s and supplementation may be necessary.

As a company powered by integrity, whenever we launch a product, we make sure that the product is formulated to satisfy our 4 core values of sustainability, quality, accountability and transparency. As you can see below, our omega-3 fish oil products check all the boxes.

In the United States men only get 50% and women only get 40% of the Omega-3s they need daily. - GOED (Global Organization for EPA & DHA Omega 3s)

Sustainability

At NutriGold, we think of sustainability as the "synergistic and interdependent relationship between people and planet." The natural world nourishes and sustains human life and we, in turn, have an obligation to protect and preserve it for future generations. We don't believe it is ethical to prioritize profits over people or planet and are as mindful of the impact that our decisions have on human health as we are of their impact on sustainability and ecological biodiversity.

Sustainability from Source to Shelf

Greater than 90% of brands use fish oil from Peru (e.g., anchovy, sardine), which then travel thousands of miles to China or Norway for processing. In contrast, NutriGold’s omega-3 fish oil is sourced in the USA, a much shorter distance from source to shelf. Our fish oil products are sourced from Alaska Pollock, native to the cold ocean waters of the Bering Sea off the coast of Alaska. The Bering Sea is known to be one of the world’s most pristine and productive ecosystems for marine life. The fisheries that we source our omega-3 oil from are also certified sustainable by MSC (Marine Stewardship Council), a respected third-party verification for sustainable fishing practices.

MSC certified sustainable fisheries protect the ocean in many intriguing and surprising ways. Visit the MSC Big Blue Ocean website to dive below the surface to see how and learn how you can help through the power of your purchases.

Our Sustainability Commitment in Practice

Over 90% of fish oil products feature fish oil sourced from Peru and processed in Norway or China. NutriGold’s fish oil is sourced and processed in the USA; the shortest distance from source to shelf.

Quality & Accountability

The omega-3 fatty acids in our fish oil products are in the triglyceride form. This is considered more bioavailable than the common ethyl ester form.* We include this distinction on the front label and the supplement facts panel of our fish oil products so our customers can make an informed purchasing decision.

Every lot of our fish oil products is third-party tested by IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards) for purity, potency, and freshness. The International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS) Program is one of the most trusted third-party testing and certification programs exclusively for fish oils.

Transparency

NutriGold's omega-3 fish oil products are traceable from source to shelf. In addition to multiple independent certifications, our customers also have access to lot-specific, third-party testing results on our website and from IFOS. Each IFOS report includes detailed testing results for freshness (TOTOX), potency, marine contaminants, and heavy metals. Every lot of our fish oil products continues to be IFOS 5-star certified, and we haven't had a single lot since we first started manufacturing fish oil supplements that has not met the IFOS program's stringent requirements.
